Dear Stakeholders,
It’s July and Crossroads is about to close the books on the first half of the year. Somehow, it’s felt like six weeks and sixteen months.
To all of you who joined us in our advocacy efforts, thank you. We got some big wins. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act appears safe from a legal challenge earlier this year. We joined voices with our fellow providers and were able to secure new investments in Employment and Hourly Services. We invited lawmakers to see our work and made trips to the Capitol to plead our case.
It wasn’t all sunshine and victories. Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP will likely affect our clients and our operations. Huge personnel reductions at the Federal level at the Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services could have untold consequences. At the state level, Work Without Worry didn’t make it over the finish line.
We have more work to do. In September, we’ll host the third annual FestivALL. We’ll welcome the familiar sounds of Winterland and The Insiders, a Tom Petty tribute band. By the first week of November, we’ll have iLLLUMINATE displays in Weed Park. Over the next few months, we’ll get to work on our next strategic plan.
All the while, we’ll continue to improve our organization. We’ll try new things. We’ll welcome new faces. We’ll serve new people. We’ll make mistakes. We’ll learn. We’ll cultivate choice and inclusion for seniors and people with disabilities.
We hope you’ll join us.
In Advocacy,
Marc Hines
